Essential Functions

POSITION* SUMMARY:*

Our research group is based in Division of Infectious Diseases and Center for Dissemination and Implementation (Elvin Geng, Aaloke Mody, Ingrid Eshun-Wilson) and has robust research collaborations with the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), based out of Lusaka, Zambia and the Kenya Medical Research Institute, based in Kisumu, Kenya. Both CIDRZ and KEMIR are on the leading edge of supporting national HIV programs, implementation, and have research spanning, infectious disease to noncommunicable disease.

Our joint research portfolio focuses primarily on assessing the success of public health HIV programs in sub-Saharan Africa and identifying novel implementation strategies to improve patient outcomes such as retention in care and viral suppression. We use a range of interdisciplinary implementation science research methods with an emphasis on application of rigorous and innovative epidemiological methods often using large observational databases (greater than 100,000 participants) or data from clinical trials.

We are looking for data analysts with strong data analytic skills and data management skills with a conceptual foundation in epidemiology. Data analysts will help with data management, designing epidemiologic analyses, conducting data analysis, and data visualization. Ideally, they will also with preparation of draft manuscripts with opportunities to lead individual manuscripts.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Quickly get up to speed on the study design and datasets being used for ongoing projects.
  2. Performs longitudinal data analysis and/or data management for investigators using statistical packages (i.e., Stata, R), including generation of tables, graphs, and figures.
  3. Assists investigators in the design of experiments, clinical trials and epidemiological studies.
  4. Assists in data base design, implementation and maintenance of data collected over time for research purposes, including acquisition, editing and reporting.
  5. May assist in design and development of data entry systems.
  6. May function as a statistical consultant primarily in collaborative studies involving the medical school community.

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as, math, statistics, computer science or epidemiology).
  • Experience and proficiency with data analysis and data management utilizing statistical packages utilized by departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’ degree in a relevant field (such as, math, statistics, computer science or epidemiology).
  • Experience and proficiency with data analysis and data management utilizing statistical packages utilized by departments.
  • Ph.D. level training in statistics, computer science, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Experience with managing and analyzing large longitudinal datasets.
  • Conceptual foundation in epidemiologic methods, including design of analyses, identifying and properly adjusting for confounding, causal inference, and interpretation of analysis.
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize and execute projects relatively independently.
  • Experience in biomedical and/or clinical studies is desirable.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $47,986 - $61,194 annually.
