RELX Group Product Manager I in St Louis, Missouri

Elsevier is looking for a Product Manager with proven product management experience working on a B2B or B2C digital product. You will report directly to the Product Director. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and launch of new features and enhancements for products within the Simulations and Skills portfolio. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues in an agile environment. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, comfortable working on fast-moving projects with tight deadlines, and competing priorities.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the product management, planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including the definition of product opportunities, defining the product release vision, gathering and prioritizing customer requirements, and working closely with internal groups to ensure that profitability and customer satisfaction goals are met

  • Analyze the competitive landscape and develop a deep understanding of customer needs, market dynamics, and key use cases

  • Contribute to the success of Elsevier’s Simulations and Skills product portfolio

  • Own responsibility for creation, management and communication of product roadmap, product requirements, user stories, sprint prioritization, and supporting documentation

  • You will be seen as a critical stakeholder for feedback on new feature ideas.

What you’ll do:

Customer Focus:

  • Gather, evaluate and have a solid understanding of customer use cases.

  • Maintains close contact with customers to gain a sense of where the market is heading and understand areas for product improvement

  • Ensure continuous communication with customer-facing teams to gain a sense for where the market is heading given multiple considerations

Data-Driven Decision-Making & Analysis

  • Leverages metrics to track progress on customer needs and ensures that product efforts move those metrics.

  • Is proficient at pulling and accessing data from multiple sources and managing through data ambiguity.

  • Considers various options to balance multiple conflicting priorities.

  • Identifies the most important data to consider and sets KPIs, and OKRs.

  • Develops multiple hypothesis-driven product evaluation strategies, including AB testing and beta testing

  • Is comfortable to take an analytical, data-driven approach for situations where rigorous data sets are unavailable.

Product Delivery & Development Lifecycle:

  • Drives key end-to-end lifecycle components, from planning to release.

  • Has a good understanding of modern SDLC processes, including agile, scrum, and squad-based team models

  • Write clear and detailed user stories and market requirements

  • Manages products without direct supervision, involving manager or other senior leaders only when appropriate.

Go to Market & Product Marketing Lifecycle:

  • Develops clear go to market launch plans through coordinated development with external customer-facing teams such as marketing and sales.

  • Supports the creation of marketing and sales collateral.

  • Supports and participates in strategic business planning, contributing to sales and business development strategy.

  • Drive process and communication for feature sunset , including a plan for migrating customers if required

  • Represents Elsevier at customer-facing events and customer visits as required.

Technical Skills:

  • Communicates clearly and knowledgeably to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Learns about new technologies to support new product development efforts.

  • Is comfortable analyzing data using existing software packages (e.g. Excel, Tableu).

Strategy & Commercial Acumen

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the product strategy.

  • Make links between personal goals and the product teams/business strategy.

  • Understands how the role contributes to the success of product and business strategy and goals.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of digital product management experience in the B2B or B2C space. Experience in education technology is preferred but not required.

  • Curiosity and excitement to learn and develop new ideas, skills and knowledge

  • Acts on feedback to improve him/herself

  • Proven experience managing existing product(s) and releasing new product or product features to the market, from collaborative conceptualization to execution to post-release management

  • Ability to tie analytics data to business metrics to drive business outcome and develop data-driven products

  • Proven agile and iterative software product development expertise

  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills

  • Entrepreneurial spirit

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-yr university in a technical or business related field
