Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Anesthesiology. The position is located at the Mid Campus Center. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the Director of Finance and Administration in directing the fiscal operations of the Department. Provides management and administration of the financial and business operations of the Department and each of its Divisions. Direct supervision of the Department’s accounts payable, financial reporting and budgeting/planning functions. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists the Director of Finance in the direction of the fiscal operations of the Department. 2. Assists the Director of Finance in financial negotiations and on-going relations with the BJC Hospitals and Washington University School of Medicine. 3. Assists Department Directors with projects and prepares ad hoc reports as needed. 4. Provides executive level summary of fiscal activities and financial forecasts for the department and each of its Divisions. 5. Manages Human Resources issues, e.g. selection/discharge, interviews, development, employee relations, performance issues/evaluations, etc. 6. Manages the preparation and analysis of the income and expense activities of the Department and its Divisions. Reports on the financial activities and the available funds for the Department at the clinical section, research lab, Division and Department levels. 7. Oversees reconciliation of the Department’s internal financial reports to Medical School reports and systems. 8. Tracks and reports on the activities of the Department’s endowment and specific purpose funds. 9. Manages the maintenance of records related the faculty book and travel funds, investigator start-up funds and discretionary funds. 10. Manages the preparation, submission, and consolidation of the strategic plan, financial reports, budgets and four-year plans for the Department and each of its Divisions. Serves as liaison to the Joint Office of Strategic Planning and the Medical School’s finance, budget and planning offices. 11. Coordinates the development of budgets and faculty compensation plans for the clinical divisions. 12. Directly supervises the Department’s financial services team, including the secretary, accounts payable clerk, financial analyst and senior financial analyst. 13. Develops and recommends policies and procedures regarding the Department’s fiscal operations. 14. Develops, implements and monitors appropriate internal controls to safeguard the assets of the Department. 15. Controls authorizations to FIS systems, including payroll, grants and financial systems. 16. Monitors compliance with departmental and external policies, regulations and guidelines for the department’s fiscal operations. 17. Responsible for tracking and reporting expenses related to the management and support services provided to BJC Hospitals. Monitors receipts from Hospitals related to Department services and the lease of departmental space. 18. Determines and evaluates the accuracy of the Medical School revenue and expense allocations to the Department. Required Qualifications * B.S. in accounting or business. * Seven years of experience in accounting/budgeting. Preferred Qualifications * MBA or CPA. * Healthcare or academic experience. * Extensive expertise in computer applications. * Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. * Ability to prioritize work assignments. * Demonstrated abilities for accuracy and attention to detail. * Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deadlines. * Ability to maintain security of confidential information. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $71,323 - $92,788 annually.
