Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Business Analyst IV will contribute to the effective implementation of MyDay, a complex program designed to improve WashU’s operational excellence and ability to make insight-driven decisions. Kicked off in July 2018, MyDay is an exciting, once-in-a-generation effort to replace the university’s core administrative IT systems (human resources, finance, and student) and improve associated business processes. The multi-year effort will replace these systems with a single system (Workday) that will integrate the university’s core administrative data in the cloud.

Through strong knowledge of the organization’s technology infrastructure and specific software applications, helps the business address changes through technology. Performs all tasks to achieve an understanding of business change needs, assessing the impact of those changes, capturing, analyzing and documenting requirements and then supporting the communication and delivery of those requirements with relevant parties. Works on projects with very large scope and impact.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  2. Prepares business cases working with university partners
  3. Collaborates with Project Manager to plan approach to requirements elicitation and methods for requirements management and communication
  4. Ensures business opportunities and objectives are clearly articulated
  5. Performs current state analysis and/or root cause analysis as required
  6. Plans modeling techniques to be used in requirements analysis (scope, process, rule, data, interface models, etc.)
  7. Works with Project Manager to plans validation of requirements in managing project scope, user acceptance, installation and deployment; helps determine metrics
  8. Performs feasibility analysis as required for projects
  9. Coordinates planning activities to meet objectives and timelines of overall program or project
  10. Works with Project Manager to forecast required time and resources
  11. Analysis, Design, Execution
  12. Implements strategies for gathering, reviewing and analyzing data requirements
  13. Performs requirements elicitation using techniques per plan
  14. Documents requirements, establishes scope and objectives and determines strategy for evaluating requirements implementation in systems to achieve business goals
  15. Facilitates and guides conversations across stakeholders of various levels of technical proficiency in order to drive decisions
  16. Organizes requirements by release and other needed categories and sets up traceability matrix; articulates requirements relationships and dependencies
  17. Translates and simplifies requirements for appropriate use; performs gap analysis and requirements analysis working with technical team
  18. Prioritizes requirements working with university partners and creates conceptual prototypes and mock-ups
  19. Uses business process modeling, traceability and quality management techniques per methodology
  20. Performs requirements management and communication; apply best practices for effective communication and problem-solving
  21. Collaborates with project management to obtain requirements approvals per project plan; facilitates go/no go decisions
  22. Validates requirements throughout process per plan
  23. Uses requirements to drive the design or review of test cases, process change requests
  24. Documents use cases based on requirements and manages user testing
  25. Provides consulting to all stakeholders regarding requirements management working with Project Management
  26. Leadership
  27. Will take on assignments for very large projects, and others as assigned
  28. Monitors the technical team solution to ensure requirements fulfillment and solution evaluation
  29. Leads and coordinates activities associated with requirements management vehicles
  30. Provides coaching to junior business systems analyst staff to successfully accomplish objectives
  31. Provides leadership to other BAs assigned to projects
  32. Assists department manager in business systems analyst selection process, and on-boarding new resources
  33. Participates in recommending and leading implementation of continuous improvement plans for business analysis
  34. Measurement
  35. Develops requirements adoption metrics and other methods of evaluating the long-term performance of the solution
  36. Reviews and monitors the effectiveness of business analysis via test results
  37. Provides status reports
  38. Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or comparable discipline plus 6 years of relevant experience analyzing business processes and data or equivalent combination of experience, certification and education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IIBA Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or PMI Professional in Business Analysis Certification (PMI-PBA) preferred
  • Business education
  • ITIL framework and IT product methodologies
  • Familiarity with testing techniques and software
  • Prior experience in higher education environments a plus
  • General Ledger experience a plus
  • Workday experience a plus
  • Experience with vended application configuration
  • Experience with supporting "Financial" / "HR" business processes
  • Data Analysis & Data Mapping experience
  • Business acumen coupled with technical knowledge
  • Experience working on technology and application development projects including developing technical requirements
  • Strong listening skills

  • Experience developing functional and non-functional requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills; consultative approach
  • Understanding of systems engineering concepts
  • Ability to conduct cost/benefit analysis and business case development
  • Recognized within the organization as demonstrating expertise in business analysis methods and modeling techniques
  • Experience working closely with team members during solution development and product launch

  • Must be able to work independently and proactively
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and independent problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated successful performance with, giving presentations to both small and large audiences, and coordinating and completing multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines
  • Ability to contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a highly-functioning and productive team
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management, process mapping and improvement, project management, and production support
  • Proven ability to provide business analysis for large scope project teams to meet customer expectations
  • Demonstrated understanding of business analyst tools and techniques; demonstrated proficiency using MS Office and Visio tools
  • Experience in a Finance/HR ERP or CRM implementations and/or integrations

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $77,314 - $102,440 annually.
