Asst General Counsel - Employment
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Assistant General Counsel - Employment, are to:
Direct employment, labor, and employee benefit counseling and provide sound and timely legal opinion in these areas, such as interpretation of court decisions, statutes and governmental regulations, staying abreast of evolving legislation, rendering legal advice to management on pending developments in these areas;
Assist corporate EEO/AA team in carrying out corporate responsibilities relative to affirmative action plans, internal reporting and monitoring activities, and related functions;
Provide litigation guidance on the defense of administrative charges and complaints of discrimination and employment law violations and employment and ERISA litigation;
Serve as counsel to the Bayer ERISA Review Committee, the HR Leadership Team, and internal legal review processes as needed and oversee the legal aspects of the Bayer "Resolution" alternative dispute resolution program;
Conduct training on labor and employment matters, including the U.S. Legal Environment training for Bayer AG delegates, Employment Law aspects of New Manager Onboarding, and routine legal updates directed to the U.S. HR community;
Provide legal advice on special projects such as acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures and participate in various teams and committees to review particular issues and provide assistance in setting policy and direction and accomplishing project objectives;
Manage multiple priorities by completing assigned legal projects utilizing detailed planning, sound business analysis, information systems support, expert legal training, and effective cost management;
Partner in the development of and/or review operating policies, practices, procedures, agreements, other documents, and training to ensure ongoing compliance, consistency, and risk avoidance.

Bachelor’s degree and a Law Degree (J.D.) or equivalent degree from an accredited law school with at least 10 years of current labor and employment legal experience gained from progressively responsible positions;
Have active membership and good standing with a U.S. state bar;
A strong combination of expert level employment law proficiency, litigation skills, and the ability to effectively communicate to a wide variety of audiences;
Demonstrate sound judgment, leadership and interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence management and other key stakeholders on legal and business issues;
Time management and excellent organizational skills and the ability to make responsible decisions under pressure;
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to work independently;
Strong analytical skills, to be utilized to assess risk, legal liability, and the financial and business impact of decisions/advice relative to corporate objectives;
Willingness and ability to travel as needed, domestically (frequently) and internationally (occasionally), up to 25%;
Have authorization to be immediately employed within the United States long term.
