Accounts Payable Specialist

Position Summary:

The Accounts Payable Specialist will provide accounting and finance support to a fast paced, client-oriented accounting department in the areas of accounts payable, accounting close, reporting and other special projects. This is a great opportunity to develop within a rapidly expanding, pre-IPO technology company.

Job Description:

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Performs any combination of invoice processing: entering invoices into the system, responding to customer inquiries, obtaining all necessary documentation and approvals, reviewing account coding, and processing transactions for payment.

  • Maintains vendor information in the system: verifying addresses and Federal ID numbers of vendors, if available.

  • Responsible for reviewing and obtaining W-9s for 1099 preparation.

  • Maintains copies of vouchers, invoices, and/or correspondence necessary for files.

  • Process supplemental check runs related to the health plan: incentive payments, broker commissions, capitation, and claims.

  • Review and prepare weekly cash disbursements and forecasting reports.

  • Prepares month-end unpaid invoice accrual journal entries.

  • Enters transaction into the general ledger as necessary.

  • Accounting Close: Responsible for the preparation of various portions of the accounting close, including but not limited to various journal entries and account reconciliations related accounts payable.

  • Sort and distribute incoming mail.

  • Special Projects: Work with multi-discipline teams on various special projects as they arise.

Experience, Qualifications and Education:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting preferred but not required

  • Public accounting or public company experience preferred but not required

  • PC skills, Microsoft Office programs, strong Excel skills required

  • Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles preferred but not required

  • Proficiency in accounting processes, procedures, and controls

  • Experience in general ledger account analysis/reconciliation

  • Experience working with cross functional departments to research and resolve issues

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage a heavy workload

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate departmental and project deadlines
