Washington University of St. Louis Accounting Supervisor - Real Estate - 50811 in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Real Estate. This position is for the Danforth Campus. This position involves some travel to/from campus, as well as occasional out of town travel for conferences. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This position manages the financial operations of the University’s off-campus assets (residential and some commercial property), including Quadrangle Housing Company (the property management company), which is responsible for managing and operating a significant portfolio of multi-family properties located in neighborhoods adjacent to the University. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Manage accounting aspects required for effective business operations, including, but not limited to, cash and banking management, procurement and purchasing needs, payables and receivables, debt and financing requirements, payroll, and timely/accurate general ledger activity. 2. Coordinate, prepare, and review annual budgets, forecasts, quarterly and annual reporting requirements, variance analysis, and other ad hoc reporting needs. Submit/present information to senior management and/or external parties (as applicable). Assist senior management with annual audit and tax requirements. 3. Hire, train, and supervise accounting staff of three or more individuals who handle day-to-day operations. Administer appointments for the off campus housing staff in the payroll system, approve bi-weekly and monthly payroll, and assist in HR paperwork/benefit-related needs. 4. Analyze accounting systems and processes for areas where additional streamlining, enhancements, or general system/process improvements can be made. Develop and take action when necessary and appropriate and/or make recommendations to management to implement process improvements to increase efficiencies and cost savings. 5. Ensure compliance with University internal controls, which includes managing system security access, purchasing and payroll controls and approvals, appropriate separation of duties for cash management tasks, and timely reconciliations of all applicable general ledger accounts. 6. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting. * Three to five years of accounting experience. * Two to three years of supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications * CPA and/or MBA. * Experience with Yardi software and real estate accounting. * Fund accounting experience. * Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and interpersonal. * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and issues with varying degrees of pressure, and expected to be an integral part of the management team. * Self-motivated individual driven by challenge with the ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity. * Analytical mind with a high degree of intelligence and the ability to “think on their feet”. * Strong work ethic and attention to the smallest of details. * Strong computer knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $52,943 - $68,816 annually.
