Kelly Services Communications Specialist in Saint Louis, Missouri
This is a temporary opportunity, $21/hr. Mon-Friday 8am - 5pm. The Communications Specialist will report directly to the Director of Communications and assist in the development and implementation of communications, public and community relations activities. The Communications Specialist provides administrative support to the department, coordinates and assists with special projects and events, and responds positively to community, parent, student and administrative inquiries concerning available services and programs.
Writes and edits media/press releases using AP style and general journalistic skill/expertise.
Disseminates information to the public and school district staff.
Provides timely updates to Collaborative's social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
Updates the school websites.
Provides assistance in the development, design and production of various district publications (brochures, newsletters, fliers, informational bulletins).
Maintains databases for various groups that receive district information.
Maintains file of student/staff achievements and prepares appropriate acknowledgements.
Assists in planning, set-up and scheduling of district events and activities.
Clips/archives newspaper articles, files and distributes as appropriate.
Obtains information in person, email, online, phone from various sources for district use.
Types correspondence, reports and other documents so that each is visually appealing, on-time and accurate.
Provides ongoing support to the Director of Communications.
Other general duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field is required.
Minimum 2 years previous experience in a communications role.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Must have strong command of grammar and punctuation skills.
Experience writing media/press releases.-at least 1 yr. MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE WRITING SAMPLE DURING INTERVIEW STAGE.
Familiar with AP (Associated Press-style of writing used in newspaper or TV) style and how to incorporate it in writing media/press releases.
Previous experience writing for social media platforms and using platforms to advocate to and inform stakeholders-not required/a plus.
Experience using graphic design, publication and social media applications, software & websites. Proficient skill level using the following software and operating systems: Adobe InDesign
& Photoshop, and Google for Education. -All a plus.
Microsoft Office Suite (esp., Word, Publisher, PowerPoint . Basic level of skill using Excel is required.
Ability to analyze and make accurate evaluations of information and data.
Basic knowledge of video production using iMovie or Window Movie Maker (or similar program/apps).
Working knowledge of how to execute internal and external communications programs.
Experience in planning and implementing special programs, events and activities.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking skills and judgement is a must.
Must be highly organized, enthusiastic and energetic, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively while meeting critical deadlines.
Must be able to creatively solve problems.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively (and understand when to do each) with a variety of audiences and employee groups.
