BUNZL Cost Accounting Analyst in Riverside, Missouri


The Cost Accounting Analyst position will be accountable both for the ongoing analysis of inventory and standard costing systems, including manufacturing performance analysis, and for assisting with general corporate accounting duties. These general accounting duties will include assisting with the month end closing process, completing periodic financial reporting requirements, assisting with completing account and bank reconciliations and ad hoc project work as assigned.

This newly created role will report to the Director of Finance for the Bunzl Agriculture Group, and will assist this director on projects and monthly activities associated with the three Agriculture companies that comprise this division of Bunzl North America.

  • Assist in the month-end closing process including preparing and posting corporate and multi-company journal entries

  • Perform and assist with account reconciliations and bank reconciliations

  • Analyze plant financial data to quantify cost savings opportunities and to support Operations with implementing cost reduction initiatives to improve EBITDA

  • Manage the updates of data accumulation systems for cost accounting systems

  • Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems

  • Oversee standard cost updates related to both material and manufacturing costs

  • Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies

  • Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the moth-end close

  • Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles

  • Gather data and report periodic variances and their causes, identifying manufacturing spending and inventory costing variances

  • Manage effectiveness of operational performance by providing operations with financial analysis, thorough reporting of manufacturing efficiency metrics and performance KPI’s

  • Document accounting procedures as needed

  • Prepare and gather data for the external and internal auditors to complete audits

  • Assist with other corporate accounting duties and special projects as directed by Management


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance Required

  • CPA and/or CMA a plus

  • Must have a minimum of three – five year’s work experience in cost accounting.

  • Strong PC skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Previous experience with JD Edwards preferred.

  • Excellent analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate with a multi-department team.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required.

  • Outstanding problem solving abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

  • Must have the ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to be versatile, can adapt to a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

  • High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients including international colleagues

  • Strong leadership and customer service skills with the ability to ensure that a high level of service and quality is maintained

  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and meet deadlines

  • Outstanding attention to detail, flexibility and creativity

  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment, work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments
