GEHA Associate Privacy Specialist in Lee’s Summit, Missouri

The Associate Privacy Specialist is responsible for supporting GEHA’s Privacy Program, and works closely with the Privacy Officer and the Deputy Privacy Officer. The Privacy Program is responsible for development of privacy standards, policies, and processes to ensure effective and efficient data privacy governance across the organization, and compliance with state and federal regulations and statutes.

SKILLS

  • Responsible for handling all privacy rights requests from GEHA members, coordinating with other departments where necessary.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of communications and privacy training programs across business functions, and related policies and procedures.

  • Supports privacy program leadership in work related to the essential elements of a privacy compliance program, including the receipt, documentation, tracking, investigation and resolution of privacy incidents, complaints, or inquiries.

  • Collaborate with and support technical and business stakeholders across the organization on privacy compliance related efforts.

  • Perform continuous monitoring activities of privacy controls to legislation and corporate guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic discipline or related experience

  • Requires 2 years of experience in compliance, internal audit, legal, and/or operational roles at a health plan or equivalent

  • Requires highly effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong oral, and written communications skills

  • Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education

  • Requires analytic and problem solving capabilities and the ability to identify solutions and recommendations that effectively address business and control needs along with how to train and guide others in this area

  • Requires the ability to multi-task effectively, responding to changing business priorities and deadlines

  • Requires the ability to work collaboratively with team members across multiple divisions and departments

  • Requires a self-starter personality

  • Requires highly effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Requires flexibility and willingness to work with a wide range of personalities on a variety of projects while prioritizing effectively

  • Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Requires some local travel

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA

  • Experience in one or more operational areas (e.g., appeals, claim processing, medical management, provider network management) at a health plan
