LEGAL AID OF WESTERN MISSOURI Staff Attorney in Kansas City, Missouri

Legal Aid seeks a full-time staff attorney for its Housing Plus Unit to represent tenants receiving subsidized housing with landlord/tenant matters.i The position also requires outreach to educate communities of their rights as a tenant and participation in the iJustice in the Hallsi program at the Jackson County Courthouse.i The Justice in the Halls program allows defendants appearing in the Jackson County Court landlord/tenant docket an opportunity to speak with an attorney prior to appearing in court.i The attorney will advise the defendants of their rights in their specific case.i This is a full-time position housed in our Central Office in Kansas City.The qualified candidate must have the following:i a Missouri law license; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high quality legal assistance to low income people.i Experience in Housing, Administrative Law, and Missouri Associate Circuit Court civil practice is a plus.i Fluency in Spanish and experience in working with the Hispanic community is preferred.i Flexibility and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team are necessary.Legal Aid of Western Missouri offers a professional and friendly work environment with integrity and excellence as our guiding principles.
