SPARK! Summer Camp has all the fun and excitement of camp with the bonus of exciting learning opportunities! Certified classroom instructors work alongside learning coaches to provide children a full-day summer camp experience. In addition to dedicated academic time for campers in the morning, SPARK! includes holistic learning from the YMCA’s Youth Development curriculum, including healthy lifestyle components, nutrition,character education and much more. This summer has an awesome lineup of field trip opportunities that combine exploratory learning and fun.
The SPARK! Learning Coach assists in the planning, implementation, and facilitation of enrichment curriculum and program activities. Guides the academic and social development of children ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment. Use a variety of resources, to introduce skills in 4 Block, Arts, Music, Physical Activity, Character Development, STEM, and Nutrition Education.
Plans and facilitates purposeful and engaging activities that complement the program’s thematic agenda and meets program quality and fidelity.
Follows program curriculum in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual needs of the participants.
Provides careful, attentive supervision; alert at all times.
Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior and understand positive youth development approaches.
Facilitates a program environment that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes children.
Ensure 1:8 ratio is maintained throughout the enrichment portion of the day.
Guide children’s behavior in a respectful manner.
Carry out established roles for supervising the children’s health and enforcing YMCA safety regulations.
Identify emergency situations then respond quickly and appropriately and instruct children in emergency procedures.
Sets up for and cleans up after all classroom activities.
Collaborates with teacher to ensure enrichment activities are aligned with literacy instruction.
Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others.
Attends and assists with parent/family events as designated by supervisor.
Maintains positive relationships with children, parents and other associates.
Help provide an atmosphere for developing positive morale and well-being amongst associates and participants.
Maintain all educational equipment and supplies in good order.
Exceed licensing standards.
Minimum age of 18.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum 2-years experience working with school age children.
Understanding of and ability to apply principles of quality youth development and programming.
Demonstrated public relations and leadership skills in working with program parents, school personnel, children and co-workers.
Sensitivity to clientele and staff representing a variety of family, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Active engagement with and supervision of children requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.
Ability to work with others in a team environment.
Commitment and desire to provide quality youth development services at all levels.
Have a general understanding of computer technology.
