BKD, LLP Digital Forensics Senior Consultant in Kansas City, Missouri

As a BKD Forensics {Senior} Consultant / Digital Forensics Analyst, you will develop expertise, expand your knowledge and build collaborative relationships within the practice and with clients. Further, you will have meaningful support from firm leadership for substantial professional development. You will spend the majority of your time assisting with digital forensics investigations, data recovery, and electronic discovery.

What You Will Do:

  • Participate in digital forensics investigations related but not limited to fraud, theft of trade secrets, breach of contract, cyber breach incident response, or other litigation matters.

  • Work with investigation team to identify and preserve digital evidence, maintain chain of custody, and handle evidence to ensure admissibility in court.

  • Conduct digital forensics examinations on evidence sources such as computers, servers, email, mobile devices, social media/web data, cloud-stored data and other devices.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed and comprehensive notes related to chain of custody, evidence handling, evidence processing, and related findings.

  • Prepare sections and/or entire digital forensics expert reports and other communications required in litigation service projects.

  • Review expert reports and advise investigation / legal team on relevant issues.

  • Advise clients on proper evidence handling and preservation in order to maintain chain of custody.

  • Adhere to forensics lab policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Ability to travel as needed, at times with short notice and ability to work non-traditional or long hours when necessary

  • Motivation to seek credentialing in the digital forensics field or a specialized subcomponent of the field; stays current on trends in digital forensics, hardware, encryption technologies, legal issues, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant field of study, or demonstration of work experience in the digital forensics field

  • Above average proficiency with the Windows operating system.

  • Familiarity with operating systems such as Linux, UNIX, Macintosh, or DOS.

  • Familiarity with database environments such as SQL, MySQL, Oracle, or MS Access, including ability to query and extract data from database systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Above average or higher proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or other analytics tools.

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools techniques

  • Ability to learn and operate new software quickly and effectively

  • Ability to work with hardware-related issues such as removing and handling internal components of PC’s, servers, or mobile devices; cabling/wiring, mechanical components, audio/video systems, gaming or other special-purpose systems, and specialized forensic hardware.

  • Familiarity and experience in Python, C++, R, or equivalent programming languages. Specific examples of how this experience has been used will be addressed during a potential interview.

  • Ability to perform and document scientific tests of software inputs and results, mechanical or device performance, and process/procedure outcomes.

  • Proficiency with basic flowcharting tools and the flowcharting process.

  • Strong research skills, including but not limited to advanced internet searches, social media, extracting data from web-based sources, querying databases, and offline information gathering such as phone interactions, in-person interviews or discussions, and other social interactions.
