The Salvation Army - Metro Division Compliance Accountant in Kansas City, Missouri

Job Objective:The Compliance Accountant is responsible for supporting the various funded programs ensuring compliance with grant/funder requirements


Essential Functions:

  • Tracks spending on various grants including but not limited to HUD, ESG, MHTF, SSVF and POH

  • Prepares billing documents and coordinates drawdown processes for grants

  • Prepares periodic reports as required by funding agencies

  • Maintains documentation for availability during funding reviews and audits

  • Tracks EFSP funding coordinating with Social Services records

  • Tracks Booth Manor resident and HUD funding

  • Communicates with various departments regarding grant spending

  • Separates and sends out THQ reserve ledgers on monthly basis

  • Maintains unclaimed property reports and completes reporting required by THQ

  • Maintains all gift card inventories and reports usage to appropriate accountant

  • Updates Fuel Funds tracking report monthly to provide to appropriate Social Services staff

  • Assists with preparation of internal and external audit schedules

  • Provides follow up on corps audit issues

  • Prepares 1099 forms for vendors

  • Maintains vehicle inventories and provide reports as needed

  • Maintain driver and vehicle list for fuel and toll accounts

  • Calculate and report applicable taxable fringe benefits to payroll

  • Prepare the bank reconciliations for City Fund and General Fund

  • Reconciles FSA account on a monthly basis

  • Updates reserve earnings and endowment reports at specified intervals

  • Calculate quarterly Support Service Adjustments

  • Electronically files all work

  • Other duties may be assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

Experience: Two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience



  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & e-mail

  • Position requires a confident, self-motivated, multi-tasked individual with integrity in the use of resources

  • Demonstrate ability as a team-builder and able to maintain confidentiality

  • Act in a manner consistent with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army

  • Must be a highly organized, detail-oriented (accuracy) self-starter able to meet deadlines

  • Strong Communication skills are necessary

  • Willingness to promote and work in accordance with The Salvation Army’s mission, vision and values, with particular regard to excellence of service

  • Must pass all applicable background checks

    Safe from Harm Level:Basic

    Bloodborne Pathogen Level:1

    Physical Requirements:Include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. This position may require the ability to lift and/or move more than 15 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

    Working Conditions:Work is performed in a typical office environment; moderate noise level in business office
