The Senior Manager Tax is responsible for the overall tax processes related to preparation, review and filing of various tax reports, including income, property, sales/use, and other miscellaneous tax returns for the Central Region. Prepare/review monthly tax provision work papers, account analyses and journal entries. Provide tax planning and tax expertise to other departments, especially in regulatory matters, deferred income taxes and transaction structuring. Prepare/review cash tax forecasting. Manage tax staff in support of the tax functions and assignments. Provide timely regional tax reports to Corporate Headquarters for inclusion in Company public reporting. As needed, provide support to Corporate Headquarters and other regional managers. Coordinate with outside professional service providers as needed.
Co-prepare/review U.S. GAAP quarterly and annual regional income tax provisions and effective tax rate reconciliations for the Central Region to support public reporting and stand-alone financial statement requirements. Work with external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes.
Participate with Regulatory Team in preparation and defense of rate case filings.
Prepare and review income tax return work papers for use by external professionals.
Review cash tax and effective rate forecasts to support the Company's budgeting and long term modeling requirements.
Prepare and review responses to queries in US federal and state income tax audits and review assessments.
Support Company tax function with research, tax due diligence, tax modeling and tax structuring advice. Engage and manage external advisors as needed.
Assist with tax planning and reorganization projects, including research and coordination with advisors and internal stakeholders.
Coach and develop direct reports with regular performance reviews related to SMART goal setting and achievement.
Develop and maintain high levels of employee engagement and teamwork where employees are disciplined in processes and work collaboratively towards the achievement of personal, departmental and business goals and initiatives.
Actively participate in the identification and execution of process improvement/best practice initiatives
Education & Experience
University - Bachelor degree or equivalent is mandatory
Must have a Professional Accounting designation ( CPA, CA) and a Masters in Tax is an asset
Must have past experience to include one of the big 4 Accounting firms
6+ years’ experience in the field
Extensive experience in preparing/ reviewing US GAAP tax provisions
Prior experience with tax and accounting issues of regulated public utilities is an asset
Previous experience in leading a team
