Maritz Copywriter - Creative Agency in Fenton, Missouri

Develops ideas, owns creative concepts and creates compelling, behavior-driving copy for B2B and B2C clients, across multiple channels, from digital to direct mail to video. Flexes tone of voice and style for multiple clients in several industries, including hospitality, automotive, pharmaceutical and manufacturing. Participates in brainstorms, collaborates with teammates, and proofs and reviews creative for consistency and accuracy. Meets creative and production deadlines. Responsible for maintaining copy style guides for assigned accounts.

Reporting and Working Relationships

Reports to the Creative Director in the Cartwheel Creative Agency. Daily collaboration with the entire Creative Team, including Designers, other Copywriters and Account Service. Other working relationships include Client Success Managers, Account Executives, Clients, Vendors, and other support team members as necessary. No direct reports.

Primary Responsibilities

• 20%

Creative Strategy: Participates in brainstorms, owning the articulation of the concept and tactical approach. Contributes to the development of the communications plan. Helps develop branding, including naming, brand voice and core values. Proactively researches relevant product and category trends, and follows top redeeming brand and industry news, in order to ensure relevant creative.

• 50%

Creative Development: Creates clear, concise and compelling copy that is persuasive, sparks a desired behavior and creates an emotional connection. Collaborates with designers to ensure copy and art are cohesive. Iterates based on collaborative, internal feedback from the Cartwheel team as well as input from extended Maritz team and clients to ensure creative meets the brief from objective, operational and brand perspectives. Maintains consistency of style and tone for each assigned client. Prioritizes and manages workload in a fast-paced environment.

Quality Assurance: Reviews own copy for grammar, syntax and brand style. Proofs creative both before it is shared with clients and prior to deployment to ensure accuracy, consistency and completeness. Keeps detailed copy style guides up-to-date for each assigned client to ensure multiple writers are capable of maintaining consistency.


  1. Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Journalism, English or Communications. Portfolio school a plus.

  2. 3+ years of copywriting experience.

  3. Marketing writing experience is a plus.

  4. Proven written communication and proofreading skills as demonstrated through copywriting experience. Excellent storytelling skills.

  5. Highly efficient, organized and extremely detail-oriented. Execution-focused, proven ability to set and meet aggressive goals/timelines. A self-starter: Ability to work independently with little or no supervision is essential.

  6. Highly collaborative, adaptable, and ability to meet aggressive and changing deadlines.

  7. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
